India 1669 (Feb 20) incoming letter from England to Mr. Streynsham Master at Surat written by his sister, Margaret Oxinden at Brook

Sir Streynsham Master (1640 –1724) was an English colonial administrator who was one of the 17th century pioneers of the English East India Company.
He came to India in 1656 and was employed by the East India Company in 1660, serving as the Acting President of the East India Company’s factory at Surat. In 1670 he led the English in the successful defence of his company in Surat against the Marathas. He served as the Agent of Madras from Jan 1678 to Jul 1681. He also served for a time as the Agent of the company’s factory at Masulipatnam and then Bengal. In 1860 he banned Sati (burning of a Hindu widow).
