India 1824 (Oct 24) BERHAMPORE Post Paid Giles 3 on folded letter to UK via Calcutta and Liverpool, CALCUTTA GENERAL POST OFFICE Giles SD8, CALCUTTA GENL POST OFFICE Giles G5, framed INDIA LETTER LIVERPOOL and Teignmouth arrival cds, redirected to Bath. Contents related to the First Burmese War – A small extract besides other interesting content: “impossible to proceed to the Burmese frontier this period of the year… but we expect the order to march the latter end of this month when we shall form a brigade with H.M. 37th Regt, 49th, N.S. a Light Infantry Corps, the whole commanded by Colonel Shaw. The Commander in Chief is to take the field at the head it is said of from 20 to 25 thousand men with such an experienced General at our hand we are quite sure of coming off with flying colours where the Burmese twice as brave as they are said to be. We are to commence operations on the 1st December when we are to plunder and destroy their whole country but as they are said to be a very poor nation a very small quantity of any prize money will fall to my share.
