India 1873 ½ oz Underpaid letter, with manuscript “above 1/4oz” from Calcutta to France via Brindisi which had overpaid the 6a8p ¼ oz rate with 8a but underpaid the 13a4p ½ oz rate and treated as unpaid. The back of cover with corresponding red “PD/CALCUTTA” mark, which was struck off in pen and black “CALCUTTA/INDIA UNPAID” was applied instead. Due 20 decimes from recipient.
