India 1882-90 QV 2a marginal blk/16, each overprinted “SPECIMEN” in serif capitals. This block is part of the original sheet that was stolen in June 1891 and recovered later. The theft led to a prosecution and conviction. When the Duke of Windsor, then Prince of Wales, visited India, he was presented with this specific block. It remained in his stamp collection until 1931 when his collection of Specimen and Fiscal stamps was purchased by the previous collector, most likely James Spence. Probably unique in private hands
