India 1898 (23 Sept.) O.H.M.S. envelope (243x113mm.) from Naxalbari to Punkabaree, bearing 1a on 9p rose overprinted “POSTAL/SERVICE“cancelled by double-ring datestamp and showing arrival datestamp (24.9) below with a further strike on reverse alongside manuscript “This cover should be returned to the Sub Postmaster NX6 as for the misuse of the Postal Service Stamps…”; filing folds and other small imperfections. These Postal Service stamps which were issued only to be used on incoming foreign parcels to indicate the amount paid for customs. Very rare and believed to be one of only three known postally used covers originating from Naxalbari using a Postal Service stamp instead of an Official stamp
